SILCHAR: BSF in its drive against cattle smuggling was fed with specific inputs by its intelligence wing on Thursday about the illegal movement of cattle along NH 6 from Meghalaya side via Malidor, Gumrah, Kalain and Badarpur in order to smuggle them out to Bangladesh. A 'special operation' was planned by the Intelligence Team of 1st Battalion BSF of Mizoram-Cachar Frontier along with 1st Battalion troops of BSF. During this operation around 8 pm of June 11, BSF jawans found one unattended truck parked along NH 6 near the NRL filling station.

The officer-in-charge of Gumrah Police Station was informed immediately over telephone to reach the spot. Today at about 1.40pm, as the search for the trucker was carried out, 15 buffalos, 11 males and 4 females, were found, ready to be smuggled out to Bangladesh. The truck and the buffaloes were seized which were handed over to Gumrah police for initiating legal action. The market value of buffaloes is Rs 12 lakh and of the Tata truck Rs 30.5 lakh. Earlier, on February 24 this year, BSF seized 34 cattle in the general area of Gumrah. The drive against cattle smuggling by BSF will continue, said a source of the Frontier Force.
