KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland Students' Union (BSU), All Bodoland Minority Students' Union (ABMSU) and conscious senior citizens of Kokrajhar on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the setting up of many new quarantine centres in residential areas of Kokrajhar to house the people returning home from various parts of the country. They said Kokrajhar district had became a risk zone after large number of returnees were being put into quarantine centres in and around Kokrajhar and they urged the Government of Assam to take the people to their respective districts by setting up quarantine centres.

The general secretary of BSU, Bonjit Manjil Basumatary, while talking to media persons at Kokrajhar, said that Kokrajhar lacked accommodation after large number of returnees started coming by road and rail. Many temporary quarantine centres were being set up which was posing a threat to the people of the district. He said the deadly coronavirus pandemic should be fought with equal responsibility by all districts and therefore, the Government of Assam should immediately take the people who are currently in different quarantine centres in Kokrajhar, to their respective districts.

The president of ABMSU, Ashraful Islam Seik also said there was no question that Kokrajhar should house all the people of lower Assam districts coming from various States of the country and they should be taken to their places. He called upon Muslims to obey the social distancing norms during the celebration of Eid and in general life. He further urged the Government of Assam to arrest the culprits involved in the murder of its president Lafiqul Islam three years back at Titaguri in Kokrajhar district.
