BTC EM assures adequate drinking water facilities under Jal Jeevan Mission

KOKRAJHAR: The Executive Member (EM) of PHE, I&PR and Library Services, BTC Dr Nilut Swargiary, while interacting with media persons at the conference hall of CHD office of I&PR on Wednesday, assured that he will look into providing adequate drinking water facilities under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), especially in northern part of the council where potable water is a big crisis along the Indo-Bhutan border area.

On the eve of completion of one year of the present Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government led by Pramod Boro and supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and GSP (Gana Suraksha Party), Dr Swargiary thanked CEM Pramod Bodo and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their bold steps to bring effective development in BTC.

Swargiary said that during 2021-22, altogether 1,123 Piped Water Supply Scheme (PWSS) was targeted for completion by covering 3,14,673 household as well as 4,701 schools and 1,233 AWCs, of which 1,23,452 functional tap connections have been completed so far. He said 57 water supply schemes were sanctioned in the tea garden areas during the year 2021-22 and construction works are going on. Total 984 new piped water supply schemes have been sanctioned, of which 201 schemes have been approved under JJM. He also said that during the year 2021-22, a total of 5,783 WSS were sanctioned to the schools of which 4,186 have been completed and remaining 1,198 are targeted to be completed in January 2022.

On the achievement of the I&PR department, Swargiary said altogether 138 Fixed Loud Speaker (FLS) systems in all districts and subdivisional head quarters are functional and for regular dissemination of information of various developmental activities of BTR government amongst the people, the department has been continuing the publication of the bi-lingual monthly newspaper Bodoland Laithun. He said the construction of vertical extension of RO-cum-CHD Information and Public Relations department at Kokrajhar has been inaugurated; extension of Gossaigaon Press Club building at Gossigaon town is nearly completed. He also said that 50 PA systems had been distributed to High Schools under the Chief's Swdwb Swrang Scheme, 120 LED TV sets have been distributed to registered clubs of BTR, four senior journalists, one from each BTR district, were felicitated with Aronai, citation and memento on the occasion of observation of National Press Day 2021.

Swargtiary said that the district library building at Mushalpur in Baksa district was ceremonially inaugurated and a new building of subdivisional library at Bhergaon in Udalguri district has been inaugurated.
