BTC Polls: Cong leader Durga Das Boro seeks protection for candidates and voters

He welcomed and thanked the State Election Commission for finally announcing the election dates.

"We welcome the announcement of dates though it has come after nine long months," Boro said.

Talking about the Grand Alliance, Boro said that Congress, AIUDF, the Left parties, and few other regional parties had decided almost nine months back that they would contest BTC elections together and they are confident that the people of Bodoland Territorial Region would decide intelligently about who to vote for. "By now people are aware of the ploys and tactics of BJP," Boro said.

The Congress leader also sought protection for the candidates, voters, and the public in general during the elections and hoped that the administration would ensure a peaceful election where everyone would be able to exercise their democratic rights.

Assam Election Commission on Tuesday announced the dates for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election.

The elections will be held in two- phases on December 7 and 10.

In the first phase, elections would be held in constituencies in Udalguri and Baksa districts on December 7. If any need for re-poll arises, it will be held on December 8. Voting will take place in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in the second phase on December 10, Re-poll, if required would be held on December 11.

The counting of votes will be done on December 12.

Voting would begin from 7.30 am and continue till 4.30 pm.
