KOKRAJHAR: BTC Chief Pramod Boro on Saturday assured that the government of BTR will extend all necessary supports to the farmers who are hit due to drought like situation. Boro, in a press conference held in Kokrajhar said the year, 2025 marks with many ups and downs in the last four and half years of BTR government. He said there had been 18 Revenue Circles and 45 ADOs in BTC to look after the problems of the farmers facing hardships due to drought. He also said the rain deficiency has hit the farmers hard due to drought since the past few weeks. “We defend upon the farmers’ products”, he added.
Boro said as many as 1500 villages of BTC hit with drought, 2,300 heaters of paddy saplings affected, 24, 618 hectors of agriculture lands affected in BTC. He said the BTC area witnessed deficiency of rains with 72 pc in Baksa , 62 pc in Chirang, 59 pc in Kokrajhar and 36 pc in Udalguri district and altogether, 69,085 families have been badly affected.
Boro said, “Agriculture is our priority. We have seen jump over of Rs 1,990 crore to over Rs 3000 crore transaction in agriculture department itself.”
He said rain harvesting system was not available in BTC but depends on rain water. If no rains by 15 August, we will extend 69,000 affected farmers in first phase and altogether 1,66,600 farmers would be given support for loss of planted grains, he added. He also said farmers would be given support on cultivation of pulses, maize, mushroom, black gram, lentil, pea mustard, other horticultures and machineries. He assured that farmers will get forms for support within five days from respective agriculture office for seed and other materials. He also assured that the government of BTR will take prompt initiative to facilitate irrigation systems to farmers from next year.
