TINSUKIA: “CAA is unconstitutional and against the cultural identity of Assamese people. If we come to power, our first and foremost responsibility would be to roll back controversial CAA,” remarked AICC general secretary Harish Rawat at workers’ meet at Durgabari Hall Tinsukia on Friday.

Criticizing strongly BJP’s oppression tactics, Rawat announced that Congress would lend support to all jailed persons irrespective of party affiliation adding that almost all victims were innocent, either they were specifically targeted and fell into police bullet. Even those who once blindly supported Modi now took to streets nationwide. The Government that promised to provide jobs to 4 million, could not even give employment to 400 persons in the last 4 years, Rawat said. AICC joint secretary Haripal Rawat was also present.

Chaired by district president of Tinsukia District Congress Committee Jayanta Kalita, the meeting was addressed by Paban Singh Ghatowar, Atowa Munda, Prithibi Majhi and other senior Congress leaders who all spoke against CAA. The Congress workers from all levels from the district like block, Mandal, Mohila Congress attended the meet. A senior BJP member Birendra Baruah who joined the Congress recently was also felicitated by Harish Rawat amid applause from the house-packed audience.
