SILCHAR: In a proud feat for Barak Valley, Cachar district has bagged the first place in the country in connection with implementation of the centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMGAY) for integrated development of scheduled castes (SC) majority villages. This was informed via a letter by R. Subrahmanyam, secretary, ministry of social justice and empowerment, Government of India to Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baruah in September last year.
The achievement got the attention of minister for education, welfare of plain tribes & backward classes Ranoj Pegu who heaped the Cachar district administration on Monday saying Cachar is the best performing district in Assam and India when it comes to implementation of schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMGAY).

Dr Pegu, who is on a two visit to Barak valley ,reached here on Sunday, visited Barsangan grant near Tapang, one of the PMAGY villages, on Monday.
