Silchar: In a preventive move to avoid potential accidents, the Cachar District Administration has prohibited public entry to certain tourist locations in the Sindura area under Katigorah Revenue Circle, citing serious safety and infrastructure gaps. The order, issued on Wednesday by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, comes after an official assessment found the sites unfit for public access due to lack of basic amenities, security measures, and emergency preparedness. The restriction is effective immediately and will continue until further notice.

Officials, including the Circle Officer of Katigorah, Block Development Officers of Kalain and Katigorah, along with personnel from local police stations, outposts, and Village Defence Parties, have been instructed to strictly enforce the order. Kalain Outpost and Katigorah Police Station will oversee regular monitoring, and any violations will attract strict legal consequences under the Disaster Management Act and other relevant laws. The administration has assured that tourist access will resume only after adequate safety infrastructure and disaster response mechanisms are installed. “Public safety is our top priority. We appeal to all citizens to cooperate and refrain from visiting the restricted sites,” the official statement emphasized.

The directive, disseminated via the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations (Barak Valley Zone), Silchar, underscores the administration’s proactive approach towards disaster risk mitigation and public welfare. Departments concerned have been asked to submit routine compliance reports to the Deputy Commissioner to ensure seamless coordination.
