Cachar administration moves to set up an innovative project under 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' in PMAGY village in district

SILCHAR: 'Catch the Rain Campaign', an innovative programme under 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' for the revival of 'Heritage Water Bodies' by involving 100 women -- including the 'Job Card Holders -- was held at Gorerbandh Pt -1 on Saturday.

Succeeding Udharbandh constituency, the Cachar District Administration has taken up another ingenious project under the 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan'. It aims to provide a drinking water facility in one of the 'Pradhan Mantri Abas Gram Yojana Village' -- Gorerbandh part 1 under Borkhola constituency of Cachar District.

The programme was organised by the Cachar District Administration. Deputy commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

While addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, "The 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' is a campaign for water conservation and water security in the country. An important part of the 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' is to focus on five aspects-- water conservation and rainwater harvesting; renovation of traditional and other water bodies; reuse of water and recharging of structure; watershed development and intensive afforestation." Elaborating on the objectives of the mission, Jalli said," The government aims at providing drinking water to every household on priority and in a sustainable manner. Such water-conservation interventions will be supplemented with special interventions including the development of the block and district-level water-conservation plants, and promotion of efficient water use for irrigation.

"The 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' should bring positive changes in people for water conservation."

DC Jalli also expressed her satisfaction with organizing such a programme and committed to the amalgamation of schools so that children can attend school regularly.

She further emphasized training for the fish farmers, adding that such training workshops will be organised shortly. The DC urged the Fishery department to explore eans to boost the livelihood of the fish farmers and assured that necessary steps will be also taken from her end for immediate construction of roads and other necessary infrastructure

Mentionably, the inhabitants of the village have not got proper water facility for the last 40 years.

The provision of a water facility would be made by clearing an antique pond of 100 years old along with an installation of a solar tank. The clearance of the said pond will be done by involving 100 women 'Job Card' holders.

The amount involved in the project will be Rs 8.25 lakhs.

The clearance work of the pond will be executed by the construction committee of the Borkhola constituency. Consequently, the cleared pond will be handed over to the committee of the adjacent temple for further maintenance.

The programme was also attended by District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Rajib Roy; Senior Planning Officer, transformation & Development Branch, Ruli Daulagupu; Assistant Executive Engineer, P&RD, Cachar, Saptajit Dey and other dignitaries, stated a press release issued from Regional Office Of Information and Public relations Barak Valley Zone Assam.
