Cachar bags prestigious SKOCH award for its Socio-economic economic approaches

SILCHAR: The project PARVARISH of the Social Welfare Department under the flagship of Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli has been awarded the SKOCH Award for its Socio-economic economic approaches to eradicate malnutrition from the children of age group 6 months to 5 years.

The programme which was launched during the Poshan Maah 2020 by Cachar Deputy Commissioner in presence of District Social welfare Officer Cachar, aims to reduce the number of malnourished children who are below the poverty line and cannot provide nutritious food to their children.

The main objective of this mission is to provide nutritious food to those children and uplift their nutritional status. Bodies, NGO'S and local businessmen have joined hands and came together to help those malnourished children. Overall 800 children got support till now under this mission PARVARISH out of which 704 children recovered from severely acute malnourish stage.

During this year poshan maah, 100% severely acutely malnourished children under the age group of 2 years to 5 years were adopted by community, MP and MLAs of different constituency with PARVARISH and 90% of children recovered from their early stage of malnurishment.

Based on the result of this mission, Cachar Social welfare Department along with the Cachar District Administration presented the entire project infront of the judges of SKOCH Group and it was conferred with SKOCH Award for its innovative approaches for creating nutrition awareness.

Minister for forest, Environment, Excise & Fishery Department, Parimal Suklabaidya expressed his pleasure over the achievement of the Cachar administration. Sharing his reaction, the minister said, "Heartiest congratulations to Cachar administration for bagging the prestigious SKOCH award. This award will provide the administration with the impetus to eradicate malnutrition among children and also inspire other districts to emulate the efforts of Cachar administration in the fight against malnutrition."

While sharing his reaction MP Silchar, Dr Rajdeep Roy said, "I congratulate Cachar DC and her entire team for bagging the prestigious award. The award will go as a symbol of devotion to work and dedication in this pandemic situation. Health and nutrition are priority areas of our government. Health remains one of the key areas in our quest of building an inclusive and new India."

Reacting to the achievement of the Cachar Administration Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said, "This is a proud moment for Cachar district. The initiative is an endeavour to fight malnutrition through multimodal intervention to prevent further diseases," stated a press release.
