SILCHAR: In yet another significant achievement, Cachar district secured the first position in Assam in Best Practice Category for implementing 'Mission Uttaran', an innovative initiative taken up to reduce maternal and child mortalities in the tea gardens of the district.
Due to the convergent interventions under Mission Uttaran, maternal mortalities have reduced from 15 (during 2020-21 ) to 9 (during 2021-22) in tea gardens of Cachar. The award was given on the occasion of World Health Day at AASC, Khanapara in Guwahati on Thursday. The initiative has been depicted through poster presentation at the aforesaid programme.
State Health Keshab Mahanta handed over the best practice award to Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli. On receipt of award, DPM, NHM, Cachar briefly elaborated the implementation process of 'Mission Uttaran' to Health Minister, Keshab Mahanta and other dignitaries present on the occasion. Meanwhile, in a message, MD NHM, Dr Lakshmanan S also appreciated the targeted efforts taken up by the district health administration and requested to fully utilize the benefits under wage compensation scheme for pregnant women in tea garden areas.
Jalli said, "For receiving the award special credit goes to CEO (ZP) i/c Health, Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem, the entire Block Health team led by SDM&HOs , BPMU , DPMU, HLFPPT, Sanjeevani team, tea garden managers, Social Welfare Department. PHE, Education and ASRLM and all the frontline workers who worked for the cause relentlessly in the midst of Covid pandemic."
