SILCHAR: There have been some confusing reports in the media about issue of postal ballots twice to the same voter. After proper investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli clarified, "A teacher of a government LP school,Sumitra Das, resident of Vivekananda road, applied for postal ballot. It was revealed that the post man delivered the postal ballot to another Sumitra Das, a private tuition teacher, who is also a resident of Vivekananda road."

The Deputy Commissioner further stated, "This is what has come to surface after our thorough investigation. It is my earnest request to media houses not to sensationalise fake news and at least let the administration inquire into any allegation before publishing it." With regard to issuing of ballot post poll, it was informed that whoever has submitted form 12 before finalisation of marked copy is allowed to cast votes through postal ballot and will be received till May 2. NATRIP also had postal ballot casting corner. Those who have not been able to cast, their postal ballots are being sent by post as per the existing rules. It was further clarified. Fair journalism demands cross-checking of a news before it is published.
