SILCHAR: As a part of the rescue and rehabilitation projects for the people who have fled from Manipur, the district administration of Cachar has left no stone unturned on the border of the states to help the people from Manipur. Apart from the regular rescue routes, they are now actively working on the waterways as well to ensure that anyone coming through those routes can be rescued.
Although the situation in the state of Manipur is gradually being restored to normalcy, people still continue to cross over to Assam. Over the past few days, many people have crossed the Jiri River and taken shelter in the camps at the Zirighat and Lakhipur subdivisions of the Cachar District. And the number of people taking shelter in the relief camps of the district continues to increase day after day.
As per the direction of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the district administration of Cachar and the police units are working tirelessly to ensure that the people do not face difficulties during their stay. Basic necessities including accommodation, food, medicine, water etc have been arranged by the administration.
Superintendent of Cachar, Numal Mahatta mentioned that the police department is conducting round-the-clock patrol missions in all the border areas. Some of them are on foot, some with vehicles and some even with boats. He also added that since many of the refugees are entering the district by crossing the Jiri River, proper steps have been implemented to ensure their safety and prevent any miscreants from disrupting the situation.
He also mentioned that the personnel from Assam Rifles are also conducting regular patrols in the region to ensure that no untoward incident takes place and the violence does not spread to the neighbouring state. Teams from the Central Reserve Police Force are also taking part in these missions in the Cachar District of Assam.
