SILCHAR: The district administration of Cachar has declared all out war against COVID-19 pandemic with ever increasing number of positive cases crossing over a century in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The superintendent of the Hospital Dr Bhaskar Gupta just before the Shramik Specials started chugging in at Silchar railway station had come out with the statement that there was no fresh positive case. All the 4 Nizamuddin and 10 Ajmer returnees admitted were by that time cured and released. This came as a relief to the administration and the people in general living under the spectre of the killer disease.

But, the entry of people from other states by trains, buses and now flight has changed the entire scenario which has prompted the administration to adopt multi pronged approach to fight. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli along with her retinue of officers is monitoring and overseeing the preparedness of the health department to cope with the alarming situation. The relaxation in lockdown and citizen's indifference towards precautionary measures is adding to the problem. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cautioned people for self discipline and self restraint as they have now to live with lockdown.

The district administration is not resting on its laurels. From airport to the block levels, Keerthi Jalli has been monitoring the infrastructure and preparedness by different agencies for taking care of patients. The incoming air passengers after screening at the help desks of Kumbhirgram airport are made to board waiting buses outside for Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. The passengers are put in at quarantine centres and after swab test, if not found negative, allowed to go home. The Deputy Commissioner expressed her satisfaction at the arrangements at the airport. Owing to the increasing load of COVID patients, the Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on pulling out and strengthening of other resources. She went around the entire premises of the Civil Hospital and asked the Joint Director of Health Services Sudip Jyoti Das, to make plans for optimal utilization of resources in close coordination of doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff. It was extra ordinary time for extra ordinary solution. Keerthi Jalli also visited urban and rural primary health centres and some model hospital to see infrastructure for treatment of mild to severe cases. She is confident to defeat and win the war against the pandemic.
