SILCHAR: In another episode of the encounter, Cachar police shot at a dacoit who allegedly tried to escape from police custody. The incident happened on Thursday late night at Auliyatilla in Sonai constituency where two more incidents of police encounters took place in recent times. The dacoit, identified as Samim Ahmed Laskar sustained an injury to his right leg when he allegedly attacked police personnel and tried to flee. Samim was reportedly involved in a number of robberies in recent times.

On April 19, Samim and his gang barged into the house of one Seema Deb in Link Road, looted cash and gold ornaments and injured the lady. Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur told the mediapersons that Samim had confessed the crime after his arrest on Thursday morning. Samim further admitted that he had a gun in his possession.

On Thursday night, a police team led by Additional SP Subrata Kumar Sen took Samim to the spot at Auliyatilla where he had reportedly kept the gun. But taking advantage of darkness, Samim tried to escape after injuring a police man. He was asked to halt, but he denied. That forced the police team to fire at him. Samim had now been under treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Police hunt for his gang was on, hinted Kaur.
