SILCHAR: In yet another successful operation, Cachar police seized a huge quantity of heroin worth Rs 6.22 crore and arrested two persons. Cachar SSP Numol Mahatta said that based on credible intelligence input, a team of his force launched a special operation at Saptagram in Dholai on Saturday. The police team intercepted one vehicle coming from Churachandpur, Manipur and arrested two persons. They were identified as Michael Lairemruot and Merina Neitinphal, both from Churachandpur, Manipur.

During the search, the police team recovered 99 soap cases containing narcotics substances weighing about 1.22 kilograms concealed inside specially-made chambers in the vehicle. The price of the psychotropic substances is worth about Rs 6.22 crore in the black market, Mahatta claimed. During the examination conducted at the place of occurrence, the drug detection kit showed positive results for heroin. During preliminary investigation, it came to light that the psychotropic substances had been illegally transported from Churachandpur, he further added.
