Silchar: The Cachar Police on Saturday July 20, recovered three suspected gold biscuits weighing approximately 439 grams from a Manipur resident near the Ramnagar bypass under Silchar Police Station. The operation was launched based on a credible tip-off. A police team intercepted 32-year-old Khamneu Munluah, son of Tuanzanang Munluah, a resident of Lamka in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The suspected gold biscuits, allegedly being transported from Manipur, were seized in the presence of independent witnesses on the spot.

According to police sources, the seized consignment was reportedly en route for delivery near the ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) area in Silchar. Confirming the seizure, Cachar’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, stated, “Based on specific intelligence input, we launched an operation near the Ramnagar bypass close to ISBT. One individual was apprehended with three suspected gold biscuits weighing around 439 grams. The estimated value in the black market is close to ₹45 lakh.”

Investigations suggest that the gold was smuggled from a neighbouring state and was to be handed over to an agent in Silchar. The police have initiated legal proceedings, and the matter is currently under active investigation.

Authorities suspect that the incident could be linked to a larger smuggling network, and efforts are underway to identify possible associates and recipients of the seized consignment.
