LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Cancer Centre in collaboration with National Health Mission, Lakhimpur, National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Center celebrated World Cancer Day at North Lakhimpur College Auditorium on Saturday.

On this occasion, a health camp was organized by the District Health Society in collaboration with the Lakhimpur Cancer Center. Dr. Jagdish Goswami, District Tuberculosis and AIDS Control Officer, delivered the keynote address on the causes of cancer and how to prevent it. He said, "Cancer can affect any age, any gender, might be young people, children, and adolescents. The number of cases is increasing due to tobacco, spices, industrial pollution, vehicle pollution, etc. Some simple rules and habits like 7-8 hours of sleep, a nutritious diet, regular physical activity or exercise, avoidance of alcohol, tobacco, etc. help a person to keep a distance from cancer."

Mira Das, an Associate Professor in the Hindi Department of Lakhimpur Girls College, who recovered from cancer, told the students about her fight against cancer. The event was attended by the Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, Vice-Principal (Administrative) Ranjan Bora and Vice-Principal (Academic) Banikant Konwar, NSS Coordinator Bipul Shaikia, Dr. Jatin Medak, Dr. Tarun Kumar Deuri, Dr. Dhiren Shaikia, faculty and students of the college.

At the end of the program, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) students took out an awareness rally on cancer. In addition to it, World Cancer Day was observed at 25 Health and Wellness Centers of the district and cancer screening camps were conducted on this occasion.
