GUWAHATI: Srutimala Duara's book, 'My Journey through Cancer', published by WizzenMonk Publishing, was launched by Northeast Writers' Forum (NEWF) at the India Club here on Sunday in the presence of Dr Neelakshi Mahanta, Head of the Department of Oncology at the State Cancer Institute, and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Dr Pori Hiloidari.

Dipanjol Deka, secretary of NEWF, welcomed the guests, stated a press release. Dr Mahanta spoke about Srutimala Duara as her patient, her courage and positive vibes.

Pori Hiloidari spoke about how the book is an informative one for cancer-struck people, the way to overcome such crisis and the wit that finds its way into the writing.

Srutimala Duara spoke how she started writing on the very day she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She said that she wanted to share her experiences with a wider world of readers, as she felt it might "help people who take life for granted with the belief that cancer happens to others, not to them, women who think nothing can be wrong with their bodies just because there is no outward sign and do not go for yearly check-up, and for those diagnosed with cancer. Hence, this book."

Publisher of Wizzen Monk Publishing, Bhargab Bharali spoke about how 'My Journey through Cancer' came into being.
