LAKHIMPUR: The Assam Agricultural University (AAU) organized a three day-long capacity-building programme from August 16 to August 18 at the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lakhimpur with financial assistance from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
A total of 50 farmers from two Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) viz. Dha-Ghagar FPC Limited and Basundhara Agro Tech Producer Company Limited, developed under the technical guidance of RARS, North Lakhimpur and KVK, Lakhimpur respectively, participated in the training programme.
The training was inaugurated at the training hall of KVK, Lakhimpur on August 16 and Dr Prasanta Kumar Pathak, the Head of the KVK, Lakhimpur welcomed all the participants. Dr Promod Chandra Deka, Principal CEO, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of Cluster-Based Business Organization (CBBO)-AAU stationed at the Horticultural Research Station, Kahikuchi, Guwahati, elaborated the aim and objectives of the training programme sponsored by the APEDA. Dr Jayanta Sarma, Coordinator, PIU-CBBO, participated as a resource person of the programme. Amlan Ranjan Tamuly, the District Development Manager, NABARD, highlighted the importance of the capacity building of FPCs in his brief initial address and later delivered his invited talk.
Representatives from the district agricultural office also participated in the opening session and laid stress on the strong growth of FPC for the transformation of the agricultural scenario across the State.
During the three day-long training programme, resource persons from RARS, North Lakhimpur, KVK, Lakhimpur, NABARD and Department of Food Safety, Lakhimpur district delivered participatory lectures on the concepts of forming FPOs, agri-business, good business planning, value chain management, market assessment and planning, etc. Mohan Deka Baruah, the District Agriculture Officer, Lakhimpur, participated in the valedictory session where certificates were distributed among all the participants.
