LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) has demanded capital punishment to the rapist who were involved with the gang rape of a Dibrugarh girl and killing and gang-rape of a girl living at Baganpara village of Baksa district.

Notably, the body of a 22-year-old girl was recovered from a paddy field on October 25, in the Baganpara village of Baksa district. During the investigation, police suspected it to be a case of rape and murder. On the other hand, a 21-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by her classmate, his cousin and another person. The police arrested one accused in the case in Dibrugarh area. They are currently on the lookout for the two other accused persons. The girl filed a complaint in the police station after she had found out that her private photos had been circulated without her consent. In the complaint, the girl reportedly alleged that she was also gangraped by three men six months ago.

AIDSO activists vehemently condemned the gruesome incidents and initiated a protest programme near Lakhimpur Commerce College premises on Wednesday demanding for the punishment of the culprits involved in both the cases in fast track court and their capital punishment. During the demonstration, the protesters rent the air by shouting multiple slogans to demand the government to take steps to ensure security to the women and to prevent such heinous murder.

They also shouted slogans to ban the pornography on internet, to control the smuggling of narcotic substances like drugs, opium, liquor. They appealed to the public to be aware of crimes against women and to come out unitedly to check them. In a written statement, the organization has expressed that the situation has deteriorated to such a level that women are not secured anywhere, be it open street or their own home. "In the State, the availability of smuggled narcotic substances has not only broken the very backbone of youths morality, but it has also led the youths to commit crime against women, from child to aged one," the statement expressed.
