Tezpur: In a major heist, seven Bolero Pick–Up Vans got stolen from the Tezpur - Dekargaon stock of the Ashok Motor's, a car dealer of Mahindra Car Company, located at Mission Chariali area in Tezpur.

The incident took place on April 8 and it has caused quite a stir.

According to reports, an investigation is underway. One vehicle has already been recovered from the Naltali area near the Kaliabhomora Bridge but the remaining six vehicles have not yet been found.

A few suspects have reportedly been picked up for interrogation.

Earlier, a team of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Jorabat Out Post (OP) of Basistha Police Station had busted a six-member gang of car lifters on April 9.

As per police, the vehicle was stolen in the early hours of March 7, 2022, from Jorabat. After a painstaking investigation, the stolen vehicle was recovered from Nongstoin at West Khasi Hills with the assistance of Meghalaya police.

The case was filed, investigated and resolved after a thorough and scientific investigation.

Two receivers of the car identified as Samborlong Sawkmie (31) of West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya and Shanstor Nungbet (26) of East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya were also arrested.

Notably, on 7 March, the owner of the Bolero Pick Up van and the driver fixed a deal with two unknown persons at Lokhora in Guwahati to transport goods from Nagaon to Guwahati.

At around 11:40 PM on the same day, the two parties met at Jorabat where they decided to go to Nagaon early morning the next day. However, the driver of the van was found senseless at a Hotel in Jorabat the next morning and the vehicle was missing.

Meanwhile, another similar incident took place last month. A team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from the Hatigaon Police Station recovered a stolen Tata Sumo vehicle and arrested two persons with the help of the Mizoram Police.
