DOOMDOOMA: Like many cases of car theft in the past at many places under Doomdooma Police Station, again another incident took place at Rupaisiding on Friday night when a Maruti Alto car (AS25J4828) belonging to Dr Malay Gogoi, Assistant Professor of BRMGM (Bir Raghav Moran Government Model) College, Doomdooma was stolen from the rented house he resides in at Jonakipath of Lachit Nagar locality here.

Gogoi had parked his car in the garage of the landlord along with the latter's car. In the morning he found that his car was missing from the garage. Reportedly, it was found that the car lifters entered the garage by breaking open the lock of the front-side gate of the house. He filed an FIR (First Information Report) at Doomdooma Police Station. It is mentionable that on August 15 night, a brand new Maruti Alto car was also stolen from Gopi Nath Bordoloi (GNB) road in Doomdooma town.

The incidences of theft and dacoity have assumed alarming proportion at the Rupaisiding area since last year. Things have come to such a pass that the shopkeepers were compelled to down their shutters at dusk.

Reportedly, such incidents of theft and dacoity reach the peak usually during the off season of tea plucking. According to informed sources, the drug addicts are primarily involved in such anti-social activities.

However this year, incidences of such activities subsided to a great extent due to the all-out drive of the police against the drug peddlers. Nonetheless, with the latest rise in car-lifting cases, the police will have to tackle the car lifting cases with an iron hand.
