‘Career in surgery has become difficult nowadays’,says Professor Ranjit Tamuli

TINSUKIA: The three-day 29th annual conference of the Assam Chapter of the Association Surgeons of India (ASACON-2018) got underway at Padumini Resort Tinsukia on Friday. Professor Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor Dibrugarh University, inaugurated the conference. A total 250 surgeons from medical colleges and institutions across Assam have been attending the meet.

In his keynote address, Dr SatyandraNath Choudhury, chairman of ASACON said, “A career in surgery has become more and more difficult nowadays in both its entry point and continuation phase. To survive in a volatile situation, a practicing surgeon has to walk very cautiously and take every decision very judiciously and should never compromise on honesty, dedication, devotion, morality and ethics.”

In the scientific session spread over three days, as many as 46 scientific papers were presented covering areas of surgery and management, besides holding the Prof Jogesh Mahanta Oration which was delivered by Dr Ebenesh Bensam, honorary secretary of ASI, and the Dr GP Sharma Memorial Oration delivered by Dr Satyandra Nath Choudhury.
