KOKRAJHAR: A robbery took place at village Kawabilw, Chandrapara under Kokrajhar police station on Wednesday evening where Rs 80,000 was looted from businessman Manaj Basumatary at gunpoint.

On Thursday, Manaj Basumatary came to Kokrajhar police station and lodged an FIR. He told the media persons that a four-member gang of dacoits with firearms came to his house at 8 pm on Wednesday. He said the armed gang first caught his domestic servant and put a pistol on his head and asked him to take them to his room. Soon after seeing him, the dacoits pointed the gun at him and looted cash Rs 80,000 and left the house.

A team of Kokrajhar district committee ABSU led by general secretary Khampa Basumatary visited the house of businessman Manaj Basumatary in the morning on Thursday to take stock of the situation. Robbery cases are on the rise in Kokrajhar and parts of Chirang since the past couple of months, which has become a cause of concern for the citizens of both districts.
