Cattle mafia injured while trying to flee from police custody in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A dreaded cattle mafia, who tried to snatch the service pistol of a Sub-Inspector in order to flee, was fired at and injured in Kokrajhar on Saturday.

Sources said that the incident took place on Friday night. Veteran cattle mafia Morangi Chinna (39), who had been arrested, revealed names of some of his associates during interrogation. The accused of Gossaigaon PS case no 46/2021, was taken to Sukanjhora at about 1 am to identify the house of a co-accused. Suddenly, the accused snatched the service pistol of SI Bhaskar Basumatary of Kokrajhar PS and started running towards the jungle.

In order to protect government property and to avoid imminent danger to the police party, two rounds were fired n him. As a result, he sustained a bullet injury. He was immediately overpowered and rushed to RNB Civil Hospital Kokrajhar for treatment. Further, follow-up action is going on. Later, he was referred to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College a\nd Hospital in Barpeta for treatment.
