GOSSAIGAON: Munna Saikia, who is allegedly the kingpin of an international cattle syndicate, was arrested at Gossaigaon recently along with nine others. A truck-laden with 16 cows was also seized. Munna Saikia allegedly tried to commit suicide under police custody on Friday.

Immediately he was sent to Gossaigaon RNB Civil Hospital for medical check-up and later brought to the PS. While talking to the medical doctor who treated Munna Saikia, he said that Munna had cut marks on both hands but the injury was not major.

Later, official sources stated that the accused Munna Saikia planned his suicide drama to create an awkward situation for the police and to gain sympathy which would help him get bail from court. Another case against Munna Saikia for trying to commit suicide was registered on Friday at Gossaigaon PS and accordingly further enquiry is on.
