GUWAHATI: Taking forward the vision to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, Atul Asthana, MD of Goodricke Group, inaugurated the newly-installed CBNAAT machine donated by Fujifilm India Limited at Amgoorie Tea Garden Hospital. Paran Jyoti Das, Senior Manager Amgoorie Tea Garden, along with his executive team were also present at the inauguration along with Dr Udayaditya Rajkonwar (District Tuberculosis Officer) who extended his complete support and guidance to utilize the CBNAAT laboratory.

CBNAAT which stands for 'cartridge- based nucleic acid amplification test' remains the only self-contained cartridge based fully automated DNA testing platform that can accurately detect both TB and resistance to rifampicin in less than two hours, and it is the only mature technology among a new generation of automated molecular diagnostic platforms.

The CBNAAT Laboratory inaugurated is the first of its kind in the tea garden hospitals of Assam. Asthana said that the CBNAAT machine would help in early detection and treatment of not only residents of the garden but also of residents of neighboring villages. The incidence of TB in Assam per 1 lakh population is 111 and that of Sivasagar district is 129, stated a press release.
