KOKRAJHAR: To mark the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, the Kokrajhar district administration is organizing a plethora of events at various locations since November 18.

On November 18, a colourful parade across Kokrajhar town was taken out. On November 19, essay competitions and other events were held among all the students of all schools in the district. On November 20, multifarious events with participation from all stakeholder groups took place. In the morning, a cycle rally was organized from the playground of the Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School. The rally was attended by hundreds of students, youth groups, police and paramilitary forces. BTR Chief Pramod Boro flagged off the rally and participated in the event.

Trivia quizzes on Lachit Barphukan across the district, blood donation camps at RNB Civil Hospital of Kokrajhar and 7th APBn Headquarter of Choraikola, cleanliness and plantation drive in all government offices were held during the day. Another unique event appreciated by all was Onnai- an Inter-generational interaction among the residents of Old Age Homes, Orphanages, Divyaang and senior citizens held at the field of Shanti Old Age Home, Choraikola. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including BTR CEM Pramod Bodo.

On November 21, a marathon from Deputy Commissioner's office, Kokrajhar to BTC Secretariat was flagged off by BTC Principal Secretary Anurag Goel and were participated by senior officers, students and people from all walks of life.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka, urged everyone in the district to participate in the programme and learn about the life of Bir Lachit Barphukan and his courage and love for the country.
