JORHAT: Former Indian footballer Swadhin Dekaraja on Saturday inaugurated the year long centenary celebrations of Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA) at the Jorhat Stadium in the district.
One hundred flags were hoisted by different organisations, associations, institutions and individuals to mark the occasion. The main flag was hosted by JDSA president and AIIDC chairman Santanu Pujari.
Swadhin Dekaraja who has represented Assam State Football Team in Santosh Trophy from 1975 to 1978 and represented The Indian football team in several international football matches said that students should play games and be engaged in different sports activities for a holistic development.
Dekaraja who was an Officer of Oil India Ltd added that along with academic studies children should be encouraged to play so that they remained physically fit in mind and body.
Dekaraja, further went down memory lane narrating how it was a matter of pride to play in Jorhat Stadium which had earthen galleries back then.
