Central government launched fortnight-long Poshan Pakhwada in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: As the Central government has launched fortnight-long Poshan Pakhwada to take forward the nutrition mission from March 8 to 22, the District Social Welfare department is organizing a slew of activities to create awareness on the nationwide Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan, Poshan Pakwada in Hailakandi district.

Focusing on nutrition in a big way, the District Social Welfare Department has launched the Poshan Pakhwada across the district coinciding with the second anniversary of the nutrition campaign. Poshan meals, yoga, awareness sessions, wall paintings in Anganwadi centers, dibbi Adan Pradan (exchange of tiffins) in tribal areas, visits to the homes of newborn to identify sick, low birth weight babies and severe acute malnutrition children, workshop are among the many activities lined up to mark the fortnight-long event.

The Central flagship program aims to provide nutrition to every household by 2022 and some of its main objectives are to prevent and reduce stunting, undernutrition, anemia, low birth weight, etc in children 0-6 years and a targeted group of children, and adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers.

District Social Welfare Officer, J.Daimary said, “During the fortnight-long campaign, our special focus will be on anemic women and giving treatment to them by holding anemia camp. Besides anemia, our aim is to fight malnourishment and stunting.” The department is putting special efforts to make men participate actively in the programs alongside women in the Anganwadi centers to stop malnutrition.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli has asked all the CDPOs to use Poshan Pakwada fortnight to find suitable lands/NoCs for construction/repair of new/old Anganwadi centers through interaction with the community, for which funds are available. Jalli while asking the CDPOs to ensure fortnight-long celebrations of Poshan Pakwada with full fervor, advised them to avoid large gatherings in view of Coronavirus situation.
