Central Govt Approves Assam CM's Proposal Of Expanding Capacity Of Digboi Refinery

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for intimating about action on expanding the capacity of Digboi Refinery via his official Twitter handle.

The Assam CM also thanked BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Dibrugarh Rameswar Teli and also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his generous support in his tweet.

Earlier, Himanta Biswa had written a letter to PM Modi on 23 September where he proposed to expand the capacity of Digboi Refinery in Assam.

The Centre has agreed to the CM's proposal and Hardeep Puri conveyed this message through a letter addressed to the CM. 

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has already initiated action for expansion of its Digboi Refinery from 0.65 Million metric ton per annum (MMTPA) to 1 MMTPA.

It is expected that the configuration study will be completed by January 2022. This will be followed by the approval of first stage investment by March 2022.

The IOCL has also taken up the matter for increasing the existing capacity from 0.65 MMTPA to 1 MMTPA.

Indian Oil Limited will meet the crude requirement for the enhanced capacity of Digboi Refinery.

Furthermore, the capacity expansion of IOCL's Guwahati refinery from 1.0 MMTPA to 1.2 MMTPA is in progress and is expected to be completed by October 2023.
