Central Institute of Technology (CIT) Celebrates Being Declared Deemed University

Kokrajhar: The Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar celebrated the declaration of Deemed University under De-novo Category at its premises recently. The Government of India (GOI) notified the status on December 13, 2018 for publication in the Gazette of India. The function was attended by the chairman, BoG, Director CIT and other distinguished guests.

The Director of CIT, Prof. Debkumar Chakrabarti welcomed the guests and spoke a little about the history of the institute to attain a ‘Deemed-to-be-University’ status under De-novo Category. He spoke about the way forward towards becoming a premier institute of the region and the nation. As one of the immediate requirements, five De-novo courses covering new and emerging areas of specialization having high relevance to the region will be started.

They are Food Engineering and Technology, Multimedia Communication and Design, Indigenous Artefacts and Design Heritage, Green Energy Technology and Water Resources and Management. He also mentioned about a sixth programme basically in Agricultural Science and Technology having a wide range of study and aspects.

He mentioned that under a modular structure, the institute would cater to various courses starting from certificate to PhD level with options to exit or take entry at different levels. Chaitali Brahma, Registrar of the institute, acknowledged the contribution of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati which has been the mentor to the institute since its inception. Brahma expressed her gratitude to the members of the CIT Society, BoG, the Academic Committee, all faculty and staff members of the institute.
