Assam Plans for Strategic Mineral Auctions and Hill Exploration
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented a daring mineral development vision for the state, endorsing the Center's demand for sustainable and lawful mining. He declared that one of the five limestone blocks up for auction will be operating by December 2025.
Additionally, Sarma disclosed that the Geological Survey of India has been assigned the responsibility of carrying out mineral exploration in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, with an emphasis on deposits of iron, silicon, and limestone. In Assam's long-term resource plan, the hill districts and Dima Hasao are being positioned as strategic areas.
Request to Facilitate the Allocation of Coal for 3400 MW Power Project
The state's aspirations for power generation through prudent resource utilization were highlighted when the Chief Minister formally requested coal allocation from the Union Minister for a proposed 3400 MW thermal power project. He underlined how crucial Center-State cooperation is to releasing the Northeast's mining potential.
