Centre For Sports Training And Rehabilitation To Be Established In Jorhat And Guwahati

GUWAHATI : Two high statured Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centres will be established in Assam's capital city, Guwahati and Jorhat district.

This announcement was made by Assam government on 23rd of January, Monday. This particular establishment has been decided to facilitate and widen the sports potential of the state.

It will provide the state's athletes, a integrated and highly effective training. This will be done through performance assessment techniques, and also assign experts for research and scrutinisation. The centres will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 23.78 crore.

As per reports, each one of the centre will sustain an operational cost of around Rs 2.49 crore every year. Along with this, state administration also declared that from now on, approval from the state cabinet is a must when it comes to renting of public sports infrastructure arbitrarily under the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Various decisions were concluded in the Assam Cabinet meeting on Monday. The meeting took place in Janata Bhawan, Dispur.

The decisions included drive against child marriage, reduction of IMR & MMR, promoting police personnel injured in the LAC, recognition to services of contractual teachers and so on. The meeting was chaired by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The prime motive behind this drive is to eradicate the social evil. It will be carried out for 15 long days across the state.

The decision has been made by the administration following a list of cases of child marriage. The CM further mentioned that, any individual who marries a girl under the age of 14 years, will be arrested under the Protection of Child from Sexual Abuses (POSCO) act. The rules will be more stern in the gram panchayat, the CM added.

He further ordered the state police department to initiate a drive against this crime, and nab each one of the people engaged in this evil activity within the mentioned time period.
