LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district units of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) will jointly celebrate the Asom Divas on December 2 like the previous years. This year, the Asom Divas Celebration Committee will confer the Chaolung Siu-Ka-PhaBor Asom Samanway Bota posthumously to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The award will consist of Rs. 25,000 cash, a memento, a heng-dang, traditional male attires of the Ahom community with a turban.

It was declared by the dignitaries of the celebration committee in a press conference organized at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday. Addressing the press conference, celebration committee president Ajit Burhagohain informed the media persons that a penal had selected Tarun Gogoi for the award among five prominent personalities who had contributed much to the State in various fields.

He added that the event of Asom Divas would be organized with a view to spreading the liberal ideologies of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha which helped the formation of greater Assamese community during the thirteenth century. As a part of the programme, a colourful cultural rally will be taken out with the participation of cultural groups representing almost all the castes and communities of the State to showcase their native culture. Popular actress Barsha Rani Bisaya will take part in the cultural rally.

Moreover, a symposium on a topic 'Ideology of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha, its impact on contemporary time and the greater Assamese community' will also be organized, wherein a galaxy of academicians, researchers will take part as resource persons. On the other hand, an exhibition-cum-competition event on traditional attires will be held to promote the edi, silk and muga industry of the State. Ethnic cultural session, literary competitions and release of souvenir will also be organized as part of the day-long agenda of the event, informed Ajit Buragohain in the press conference.
