MP, DC thank state government for helping families of Covid-19 victims

SILCHAR: MP Dr Rajdeep Roy handed over cheques to 29 beneficiaries of the Chief Minister's Covid-19 Widows Support Scheme here on Saturday. The beneficiaries, who are from Cachar district, have received an amount of Rs. 2.5 lakh (each) under the scheme. Besides, six beneficiaries (family members of Covid-19 victims) were handed over cheques of Rs. 1 lakh under the Prarthana Scheme.

On the occasion a programme was held at the conference hall of Cachar Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday in which the cheques were distributed.

Speaking at the event, MP, Silchar,Dr Rajdeep Roy said the government has taken the initiative of providing financial assistance to people (who have lost their family members because of Covid-19) to help them in these troubled times and expressed his thankfulness to the government for extending its helping hand to the families.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, "It is a very painful time for the families (who lost their family members because of Covid-19) and I hope the financial help provides them some relief in the tough times they are facing. Also, there are a lot of other families who are eligible for the Prarthana Scheme, but because of improper documentation the administration is unable to help them. I request the families to come forward and submit the requisite documents at the earliest to ensure they get financial assistance from the government". The Deputy Commissioner also expressed her gratitude to the government for its noble initiative of helping the families in this period of crisis.

It is pertinent to mention that Government of Assam launches 'Prarthana Scheme' to support covid bereaved families,the scheme aims to provide one time financial assistance of rupees 1lakh to the next of kin of deceased COVID patients.

It's worth mentioning that in Cachar District in the 1st phase 17 beneficiaries have received a cheque of rupees 2.5lachs each and in the 2nd phase 29beneficiaries have received a cheque of rupees 2.5 lacs each under CM's Covid widow support scheme and 6 beneficiaries have received cheques 1.0lacs each under 'Prarthana Scheme' in the 1st phase so far.

Silchar legislator Dipayan Chakraborty and Katigorah legislator Khalil Uddin Mazumder were also present at the programme, stated a press release issued from the Regional Office of Information and Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Assam.
