SILCHAR: "Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is steadfastly working to usher in the pace of development of the state and he has made several visits to Barak Valley since taking charge back in 2021. His concerns for the development of Barak Valley is reflected in the way 11 lakh females of the state who have taken loan from microfinance are being given cheques worth Rs 25,000 so that they are able to repay the loan in an easy way," said Finance Minister Ajanta Neog.

Addressing the women beneficiaries at the assam microfinance incentive and relief scheme event in which as many 5,000 beneficiaries from Cachar were given the cheques, the Finance Minister said, "This was one of the pre-poll promises made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to those women who are loan borrowers from Bandhan Bank or any other microfinance during COVID-19 that if the government is brought back to power, their loans would be weaved. And hence, the government has taken this step on priority to assist the women and bring back smiles on their faces. The Chief Minister is taking steps to unit the people from diverse linguistic communities and take Assam enroute the best State in the country."

Minister of Urban Development and Irrigation and also Cachar Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal who also attended the event, said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is keen to accelerate overall development of Barak Valley and the government led by Sarma is pro-people and steps are being taken to resume the developmental works which were halted due to COVID-19.

Singhal said that the remaining work for the completion of the much awaited four-lane express highway connecting silchar to Guwahati via Haflong would be wrapped up in the next few months and also maintained that in all aspects of development including health education and agriculture would be revamped. "The government is also focused about setting up of the Medical College at Karimganj," the minister said.

Earlier in her welcome address, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, "Today, we are very happy that the Government of Assam has extended a helping hand to the beneficiaries under the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme - 2021. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has started this project with the idea of becoming self-sufficient with this financial assistance, a total of 42,314 people will receive this grant in Cachar district alone. The cheques will be distributed among the beneficiaries. I urge all the beneficiaries present here today to use this money wisely and strive to improve their standard of living."

Later, cheques of Rs 25,000 each were ceremonially distributed to the 19 women beneficiaries by the dignitaries on the occasion.
