DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday attended the diamond jubilee celebration of the Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL) at Duliajan.
Congratulating AGCL on its 60 years of glorious journey in the business of collection, transportation and distribution of natural gas, the chief minister hailed the important role of the state public sector undertaking in providing natural gas to 42,000 domestic households and 1,200 commercial consumers, apart from 420 tea factories and industries in upper Assam. Incorporated on March 31,1962, AGCL is India's first dedicated natural gas transmission and distribution company.
AGCL which began its gas transportation business in 1967 with supply of natural gas to the Namrup Thermal Power Station of Assam State Electricity Board, has currently a network of underground natural gas trunk and distribution pipelines that serves more than 400 tea factories, 1,200 commercial establishments, 42,000 domestic consumers and several big industrial consumers in the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat and Cachar.
Union MoS of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, Industries and Commerce Ninister Chandra Mohan Patowary, labour welfare minister Sanjoy Kishan, MLAs Taranga Gogoi, Prasanta Phukan, Terosh Gowalla, Bolin Chetia AGCL MD Gokul Chandra Swargiyari were among those present on the occasion.
