LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday called on the bereaved family of Indreswar Borah, the Nimati Ghat ferry mishap victim from Lakhimpur. The Chief Minister arrived at the deceased's residence located at Pahumora Kanduwa Pothar (Madhavpur) village.

Indreswar Borah and his wife were the passengers of the single engine ferry named Ma Kamala which capsized and drowned in the Brahmaputra after the collision of the ferry with another double engine ferry named SB Tikirai on September 8. During the tragic ferry accident, Indreswar Borah managed to save his wife and other passengers of the ferry. Then he went missing in the Brahmaputra. His body was recovered at the edge of the Brahmaputra at a place named Bhasa Tapu under Biswanath Ghat area and cremated on the same day at his house campus.

The Chief Minister extended his sympathy to the bereaved family of Indreswar Borah while meeting with his father Prabhat Borah and wife Ruprekha Senapoti Borah. Minister for Guwahati Development, Urban Development and Irrigation Affairs, Ashok Singhal also called on the family along with Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka.

Later, interacting with the media persons, the Chief Minister said that the State Government had been taking moves to extend compensation to the family. He also said that Indreswar Borah's wife Ruprekha Senapoti Borah would be given government job. In this regard, detailed information would be disclosed very soon, the Chief Minister added. He further said that the State Government had taken all necessary measures to check tragic incident like the Nimati Ghat ferry mishap.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister skillfully escaped from replying when media persons asked him whether the contentious Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project issue would be discussed in the cabinet meeting in Dhemaji.
