Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviews Goalpara flood situation

GOALPARA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday visited the flood-affected areas of Goalpara district and took stock of the damages. He also interacted with the flood-affected people in those areas. During the visit he assessed the damages caused to the roads and bridges by Singowa river floods. He also visited flood relief camps at Chandaria Pathar LP School, Chandaria Pathar ME English School, Goalpara JN High School and Goalpara High Madrassa and interacted with the inmates there while taking stock of the relief measures undertaken by the district administration.

Later, the Chief Minister reviewed the flood situation in the district at a meeting held at the conference hall of Goalpara Deputy Commissioner’s office and directed the Water Resources Department officials to constitute an inspection committee for ensuring the safety of the embankments in the district. He also instructed the department to conduct a study on all the rivers flowing through Goalpara. Reviewing the functioning of Inland Water Transport Department, the Chief Minister directed to ensure safety of people travelling by boats at different ghats of the district and register all the boats.

Directing the Health department to take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diseases in the aftermath of the flood, Sonowal instructed the department to take special care of women, children and senior citizens. PWD was also instructed to repair all roads, bridges and culverts damaged by flood and the Agriculture department was instructed to provide rice seedlings to the farmers whose crops were affected. Likewise, officials of APDCL, PHED, Veterinary, Education, Social Welfare were also instructed to work as a team and carry out their respective duties with dedication. The Chief Minister also directed to take MPs, MLAs and other public representatives in confidence while performing these activities.
