LAKHIMPUR: “All the tribes and communities of Assam must be strong and developed in order to establish the culture of the State strongly across the globe. The issue of recognizing the Mising language as one of the media of education in the primary schools of the State is under consideration.” This message was imparted to the Mising Agom Kebang (MAK) by Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal on the occasion of the last open session of the 23rd triennial session of the organization, held at the Tarun Chandra Pamegam Lotta at Ratanpur Miri area in Majuli district from April 25 to April 28. Though the Chief Minister was to grace the occasion as chief guest, he could not attend the same at the last moment due to inclement weather and declared this through an audio message sent to the organization, addressing the dignitaries and the gathering of the event.
He further added that the State government was always keen to develop the language, literature and culture of the Mising community along with that of the other communities. He hoped that the thoughts and endeavours of the eminent thinkers and researchers assembled in the event would pave the way for the comprehensive amelioration of the community.
The 23rd session of MAK concluded on Sunday. The agenda of the concluding day began with a colourful cultural rally wherein the manifold features of Mising community culture and Assamese culture as a whole, with the participation of various tribes and communities of the State, were showcased. The rally was inaugurated by Mising Dirbi Kebang vice-president Dr. Pabitra Kumar Pegu. It was followed by the last open session of the extravaganza with MAK president Gobinda Taid in the chair. It began with a chorus presented by the artistes of Jengraimukh Ni:tam High School. The programme was inaugurated by former MAK president Dr. Ghana Kanta Lagasu.
In his lecture, he expressed hope about the extension of the government’s patronization towards the progress of the Mising language, culture and literature. He added that the Assamese language would not be affected if the Mising language was recognized as a medium of education. “Similarly, Mising language will flourish along with the Assamese language,” he further said.
Former president of MAK, Dr. Bidyeswar Doley delivered the speech of appointed speaker while celebration committee president Phanidhar Taid delivered the welcome address. General secretary of MAK, Dr. Anil Kumar Pegu forwarded the secretarial report. Dhemaji MLA Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu, Dergaon MLA Bhaben Bharali, MAC chairperson Sunil Kumar Pegu, CEM Paramananda Chayengiya, several executive members of the MAC and TMPK president Rajkumar Morang were among those who were present in the programme as guests of honour.
