GUWAHATI: The statement of the two victims in the Guwahati child abuse case was recorded at a judicial magistrate’s court here on Wednesday.

The statements were recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The children were allegedly illegally adopted by the doctor couple of surgeon Dr Waliul Islam and psychiatrist Dr Sangeeta Datta. The couple has been charged with alleged abuse the minor children and two domestic help are also culpable in the case, as the police were able to gather evidence from home CCTV recordings.

According to sources, the two victims were not brought into contact with Dr Sangeeta Dutta while their statements were recorded in the court.

Meanwhile, the police custody of Doctor Sangeeta Datta in the alleged child abuse case has extended by the court for another three days.

After the extension of her police custody for another three days, Dr Datta was taken to the Panbazar police station.

Also earlier, the personal assistant of the prime accused Sangeeta Datta in the child abuse case Utpala Bose, had been remanded to 5-days police custody by a court in Guwahati last Saturday.

According to reports earlier, Utpala was arrested by Paltan Bazar police last Friday night as she was alleged to be the person responsible for arranging the children for adoption by the doctor couple Sangeeta Datta and Waliul Islam, in lieu of a large sum of money.

Utpala had reportedly been on the run for three days and later surrendered herself at the Paltan Bazar Police Station on Friday night, following which she was arrested and arraigned in court in connection with the heinous case that has shocked the entire state.

The sordid saga saw another twist when Abhijit Bose, the journalist detained in connection with the case by the police, has declared that he is set to file a defamation case against the police for publicizing his name and putting him in handcuffs during routine questioning by the police.

According to information made public, Abhijit Bose is the brother of Utpala Bose, the personal assistant of Dr Sangeeta Datta.
