SILCHAR: "A man is remembered for his noble works to society and remains a source of inspiration to all forever," pointed out Lopamudra Choudhury, a social activist and an important functionary of Vivekananda Kanya Kumari Kendra of Karimganj. Social worker and teacher Dulan Das is today a person of remembrance for his notable contributions in the field of education, culture and for his various creative activities. On the 5th death anniversary of Dulan Das, profound homage was paid to him by various speakers at the memorial meeting held in the premises of Vivekananda Kendra.

Dulan Das was the founder member of Vivekananda Kendra and his death anniversary is observed with all solemnity and serenity every year by arranging people oriented welfare programmes. It all began with health camp at Charbazar area followed by distribution of free books to students of high school stage and this year, 5 students of Vivekananda Vidya Niketan have been conferred with 'Dulan Das Vidyarthi Honour,' Lopamudra Choudhury said.

On the occasion of his fifth death anniversary, the memorial function presided over by Lopamudra Choudhury began by offering floral tributes at the feet of the marble statue of Vivekananda in the premises of Vivekananda Vidya Niketan. It was followed by paying glowing homage to the statue of Dulan Das. Head Master of Vidya Niketan, Amar Krishna Saha, said Dulan Das has been the heart and soul of this school and his contributions have been immense. Sulekha Dutta Choudhury, former municipal commissioner, asked the school students to follow the ideals of the great teacher.

Those students conferred with Dulan Das Vidyarthi Honour included Trishankha Modak of class 1, Farad Hussain of class II, Kajal Das Choudhury of class III, Saira Banu of class IV and Priya Dey of class V. All of them were also presented various gifts. In order to make the day memorable, saplings were planted on the campus of the school.
