Chirang all set for parliamentary polls on April 23

Kokrajhar/Bongaigaon: Chirang election district is all set to conduct the parliamentary election in 31- Sidli (ST) Assembly segment on April 23. As per the latest update, there are total 2,06,404 voters in the district, including 1,02,835 males, 1,03,569 females, 640 service voters, 5 third gender and 170 People with Disabilities (PwD). It also has 141 D-voters.

The district has 269 polling stations with 74 sensitive, 70 hypersensitive, 125 comparatively safe, 14 vulnerable hamlets and two polling stations being identified as critical. The District Election Officer (DEO), Gautam Talukdar informed that adequate Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel along with State Armed Police (SAP) and micro observers are being deputed at the critical polling stations which will have continuous videography arrangements as well.

He further informed that the entire constituency area is divided into 9 zones and 26 sectors and 2 sub-sectors for election management. As such, the district has already appointed 1,290 polling personnel like presiding officer, first, second and third polling officers. The DEO also informed that there were various facilities in place for the PwD voters like wheelchairs at polling stations, ramps wherever possible and free transport facilities to help the PwD voters commute. As per requirement, a total of 305 ballot units, 305 control units and 325 VVPATs will be put to use during the polling day, he added.
