Chirang DC Gautam Talukdar reviews flood situation in the district

Bongaigaon/Kokrajhar: The Deputy Commissioner of Chirang, Gautam Talukdar on Tuesday held a meeting with the district heads of the departments concerned to review the flood situation in the district.

During the meeting, he took department-wise reports to assess the actual damages caused by the current flood waters for preparation of proposal for onward submission to the government. He also urged the officials to prepare plan and estimates after visiting affected areas as per requirement for restoration of normal condition.

According to the latest report, a total of 9 villages under three Revenue Circles have been affected by the floodwaters of Aie, Beki and Champa rivers following the incessant rainfall activities over the district. At present, seven relief camps are operational with 2,677 inmates at Dababil LPS, Burijhar No.2 LPS, Madarpur LPS, Dangapeta LPS, Ledopara LPS, Nawduba LPS and No.1 Kujrabguri LPS. The flood water has also caused damage to 11 major roads, three RCC bridges and badly eroded three public properties.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have been put into service in the flood-affected areas with three rescue boats for search and rescue operation for marooned people. As such, relief materials like rice, dal, salt, mustard oil and baby food are being distributed to the camp inmates since July 7 in the district. The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Karmadev Brahma, Circle Officers of Bengtal, Sidli and Bijni Revenue Circles.
