BONGAIGAON: Based on specific input, an operation was conducted by Chirang Police led by Additional SP(Hq), Chirang on August 31 evening. As per police sources, during the operation, one truck bearing registration no. RJ-27-GB 0810 loaded with bamboo was seen coming from Rakhaldubi, Bongaigaon side and accordingly, it was signalled to stop. "But, the driver of the truck tried to escape at a high speed in a negligent manner without obeying the signal of the on-duty police personnel. The truck was intercepted near Chapaguri Chariali after a chase. The driver of the vehicle was apprehended. He was identified as Kamalesh Meena (36), son of Mawa Ramji, resident of Charma Talab village, Udaipur, Lasadia of Rajasthan. During checking of the vehicle, 318 packets of suspected India-made foreign liquor were found in the truck, concealed under the cover of the bamboo. The apprehended person could not produce any valid documents in support of transportation of the same," the police source said. It is suspected that the recovered items were attempted to be transported illegally to neighbouring States by some organized criminal gangs.
