BARPETA: Mara Choulkhowa river, which flows through the town created a great erosion problem in some areas of Barpeta district. Choulkhowa river has eroded a massive part in Sonkuchy and Dhanbandha areas in the Barpeta district. Sonkuchy and Dhanbandha areas are only one kilometer far from the Deputy Commissioner' s office. The Choulkhowa river erosion continues and according to the locals a total of 50 houses have collapsed due to it. According to reports, a quarter of DRDA is also about to collapse into the river. Moreover, the 33,000 volt electric wire and 11,000 thousand volt electric wire posts are about to fall into the river. The locals of Sonkuchy and Dhanbandha areas are repeatedly urging the government to take measures to prevent Choulkhowa river erosion. But the district administration and the government have not taken any initiative regarding it.
