GOLAGHAT: The Golaghat Sub-divisional Chutia Students' Union burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbamanda Sonowal, State Finance Minister Himant Biswa and minister Chandan Brahma at Bezbaruah point of Golaghat town on Monday for 'betraying' the Chutia community people.

The general secretary of All Assam Chutia Students' Union, Mohen Bora said, "We have been demanding ST status jointly with the other communities. But the Assam Government provided ST autonomous councils to Moran, Motak and Koch Rajbongshi communities and deprived the Chutia community."

The Chutia students' body threatened the Assam Government by burning effigies of the Chief Minister and ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chandan Brahma. The activists said that if the government did not provide ST status to the Chutia community before the 2021 election, the government would face the consequences.
