CID raids Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha's residence in Sivasagar

Sivasagar: On Thursday, a two-member team from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) searched the residence of Bir Lachit Sena leader Sringkhol Chaliha at Phukan Nagar in Sivasagar.

The team, accompanied by staff from Sivasagar Police and CRPF, arrived at around 6: 30 am.

The search team questioned Chaliha's elderly parents. According to reports. the team had seized the mobile phone of Chaliha's mother.

Chaliha's parents called upon the people of Assam to stand by him at this hour of crisis.

Dibrugarh police on December 20 last had arrested Sringkhol Chaliha, organizing secretary of Bir Lachit Sena from Lepetkata area at Barbaruah of Dibrugarh district in connection with a Guwahati case.

Earlier. the CID of Assam Police had registered a case (30/2019) against Chaliha on charges of making provocative statements against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Chaliha was arrested in Dibrugarh on Monday and brought to Guwahati. He was produced before the CJM Court here on Tuesday and the court remanded him to CID custody for two days.
